Keep Longview Smiling, Keep Fluoride.

Longview is a special place. We work hard, care for our community, and take pride in protecting our residents—and our famous resident squirrels! Our community’s commitment to water fluoridation is another example of how we live these values. Longview has been fluoridating its water for over 60 years, with an annual cost of approximately $0.38 per resident each year. Our community reaps significant health and financial benefits.

Remember:

  • Fluoride is known as “nature’s cavity fighter” and occurs naturally everywhere—from our rivers and lakes to the Puget Sound. The right balance of fluoride is essential for oral health and overall well-being.

  • Scientific evidence confirms that fluoridation benefits children and adults, preventing cavities and lowering dental care costs.

  • Communities that ended fluoridation faced higher dental costs, especially hurting low-income families. In Cowlitz County, where 29% lack dental insurance and preschool decay rates exceed state averages, ending fluoridation would hit vulnerable residents hardest.

  • The US military ensures that all major military bases have the right balance of fluoride to keep our troops and their families healthy.

Research shows that each person in fluoridated communities saves annually on dental care—nearly $129 in savings for a family of four.

Focus on the facts, not fear tactics.

The fluoride balance in our water safeguards our children's futures and our families' well-being. With a city council vote approaching, Longview residents must voice their support. Maintaining our current water fluoridation system is a small investment that yields significant returns in dental health and cost savings. Let's make the smart choice for Longview's future.
